Cette plante à feuilles
persistantes, qui embellie le Parc Montsouris, prend son nom de Bernard
McMahon (1775-1816), le mentor jardinier de Thomas Jefferson le
troisième président des Etats-Unis d'Amérique
(1801-1809). En 1818 pour honorer l'ensemble de ses travaux dans le
domaine de l'horticulture, le botaniste Thomas Nuttall a donné
le nom de Mahonia à cet arbuste populaire. |
Ten wiecznie zielony, o wielorakich obliczach krzak ozdabiający Park na Mysiej Górze, bierze swą nazwę od Bernarda McMahon (1775-1816), ogrodniczego nestora Thomasa Jeffersona, trzeciego prezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki States (1801-1809). W roku 1919 cały jego wkład w dziedzinie ogrodnictwa został uhonorowany przez botanistę Thomasa Nuttall poprzez nadanie krzewu oficjalnej nazwy Mahonia. |
This multifaceted evergreen shrub that embellishes
Montsouris Park gets its name from Bernard McMahon (1775-1816), the
gardening mentor of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United
States (1801-1809). In 1818 for all his accomplishments in
horticulture, Bernard McMahon, was honoured by botanist Thomas Nuttall
by bestowing the genus name Mahonia on that popular shrub. |
